Our Flow! Stroke Survivors

Between February and April 2018, The Artifact teamed up with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) and Dundee Stroke Exercise Group to introduce a new way of keeping mobile for those who have come through the experience of a Stroke. That new method involved our techniques in dance and spoken word. Across the space of ten weeks, participants created words and movements inspired by their experiences of stroke, and created three new pieces of dance and spoken word. They performed these at an informal sharing on the final session.

Through these workshops, participants developed their cognitive skills, kept physically active and explored the emotional side of their experiences in a creative way.

“This has been our first opportunity to work with both the Stroke Exercise Club and Gemma and it has been an innovation for the group and our organisation. To take the building blocks of exercise and use them expressively and creatively has opened up everyone’s mind to new possibilities. We are all learning so much from the partnership that we hope to be able to develop it further in the future.”
